First-time license applicants must pass the Canadian Firearms Safety Course before applying for a Possession and Acquisition License. After the in-class instruction, you will do a written and practical test.
Anyone 12 years or older can take the CFSC. Children under 12 can take the course, but only for educational purposes. They will not do the written or practical exams. To get a Minor’s License to borrow and use non-restricted firearms, the minor must be between 12 and 17 years old.
The course usually takes place on a weekend, starting at 9 AM on Saturday and running through to around 6 PM depending upon student progress. Practical handling examinations are conducted on a Sunday morning between 8 AM and 12 PM in defined time slots arranged with your instructor on the preceding day. For students that travel some distance for the course, we offer practical testing on Saturday evening, where possible, to remove the need for overnight accommodation or a second day of travel.
See the course detail page for further info.
NOTE: This course is subject to a minimum sales threshold and we reserve the right to reschedule if less than 10 seats are sold 7 days prior to the event.
